Millet in the Morning
Apr 08, 2024It's the eve of the New Moon and Eclipse. Are you feeling it?
I don't have any big insights about the Eclipse or the New Moon at the moment, there are plenty of those out there. What I will say is this: When energies get intense, making sure we are nourished is key. Generally in the Springtime, we should eat less grains as they tend to be heavy and moist. Millet, however, is a lighter and slightly drying grain which is perfect for Springtime hot porridge.
If you are used to eating oatmeal, millet combined with warming spices and prunes, apricots, or raisins, creates a nourishing and more seasonally appropriate breakfast.

Springtime Morning Millet (2 servings)
1/2 c. millet
2 cups water
1/4 t. cinnamon
1/8 t. cardamom
1/8 t. dried ginger
4 prunes and/or apricots, cut up into pieces
a small handful of golden raisins
1 t. sesame seeds
A pinch of salt
Combine all ingredients in a pot with a lid and boil on low for 30 minutes.
