You are both soft and fierce, a beautiful dance of strength and gentleness.
As we journey through the stages of life, our bodies, minds, and spirits will change, just like the Earth as she journeys through each season of the year. We gain more wisdom, humility, strength, and compassion with each passing season. If we are lucky to live long enough, we will go through multiple changes in our lives.
Starting in our late 30s, most of us will notice changes in how we feel (digestion, sleep, joint pain, energy, etc). This is not just "aging" but the beginning of a new phase of life, commonly called Menopause, which actually consists of decades of hormonal changes. However, most of us won't realize what is actually occurring until years later.
This evolutionary time (women navigating this transition in their 40s, 50s, 60s, & 70s) has become my passion. I am firmly rooted in my own perimenopausal journey, as I also continue to support other women through all stages of menopause in my Ayurveda practice. In learning more about how Western medicine addresses (or fails to address) the concerns of a quarter of the US population, I see how Ayurveda offers an essential missing link that could benefit every woman in this phase of her life.
As we celebrate Earth Day on Tuesday April 22, aligning with the rhythms of nature is the most simple and profound act of courage we can all take right now. The world is complicated enough to navigate right now. Let's gather in sisterhood to learn how to support ourselves and each other to embrace the second half of life with abundant health and empowered self-care. Ayurveda invites us to connect with this ancient wisdom in ways that remain applicable to our modern wellbeing.
May we be nourished as we navigate personal, communal, and planetary evolution. May beings everywhere be safe, happy, and well.
